作为新一届ISPRM主席,我很荣幸地向大家先容主席内阁成员,他们是:Jorge Lains(候任主席),Walter Frontera(副主席),Gerold Stucki(前任主席),John Olver(司库),Francisca Gimigliano(秘书)。

  优化ISPRM委员会的结构和职能;

  促进发展中国家物理医学和康复医学的发展;

  拓展对高品质培训课程和继续教育项目的认证范围;

Ziad M. Hawamdeh, Ali H. Otom, Khalil N. Al abbadi

  Lim

Message from the President
Dr. Jianan Li
President of ISPRM

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Thank you for your support of the 2014 ISPRM annual congress. This is not only our scientific meeting but also a festival celebrating the specialty of physical and rehabilitation medicine. Over 3000 rehabilitation professionals took part in this premier scientific event in 2014 under the leadership of Prof. Marta Imamura and Prof. Guzman Gonzalez. We also congratulate Prof. Marta Imamura for her new leadership role in the WHO.
This successful congress explored various updates in rehabilitation and renewed the leadership group of the ISPRM for the coming term of 2014-2016. As the new President of ISPRM, it is my great honor to have Jorge Lains (Elected President), Walter Frontera (Vice President) , Gerold Stucki (Immediate Past-President), John Olver (Treasurer) and Francisca Gimigliano (Secretary) in the president cabinet. Meanwhile we also have new executive committee leaders and members of the Honorary President Council, Task Force, Ambassadors, and the Assembly of Delegates as the backbone of ISPRM.
The mission of the ISPRM is to optimize functioning and health-related quality of life and to minimize disability in persons throughout the world. The new leadership team endorses the strategies for the future of ISPRM:

  • To optimize the ISPRM committee structure and operation
  • To facilitate PRM in developing countries
  • To extend qualified training courses and CME programs with certification
  • To promote the ISPRM with other stakeholders(NGO and governmental)

The ISPRM and new leadership team members are here for you. We hope the ISPRM will be the international medical platform to pursue our rehabilitation dreams, to improve disabled patients’ lives, and to make the world a better place for all.
As the first milestone of our action plan, we are looking forward to seeing you at the ISPRM summit for developing countries in Suzhou (China) during Aug 29-30 (http://www.prmfdc.org/).

History of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Jordan
Ziad M. Hawamdeh, Ali H. Otom, Khalil N. Al abbadi

Message from the Chair of News & Views:

"It is a pleasure to present this history of PRM in Jordan. It should be noted that one of the authors, Dr. Hawamdeh, has the distinction of being the first full Professor of PRM in his country. It is an honor to present his work, as well as that of his co-authors." Ralph Buschbacher

Jordan is considered one of the leading countries in PMR in the Arab world. The increased number of disabilities as a result of diseases, epidemics of poliomyelitis, and wars in the region increased the need to establish rehabilitation services in Jordan in early 1960’s. The service is provided by departments of rehabilitation medicine at both the Royal Medical Services and at the Ministry of Health hospitals- which cover all the 12 governorates of the country- in addition to the 2 university hospitals in Jordan, Jordan University Hospital in Amman and King Abdullah University Hospital in Irbid, as well as some private hospitals in the country.

Launching of the New International Exchange Committee Website Featuring the International Exchange Program

By Dr. Bryan O'Young

The International Exchange Committee (IEC) has recently launched a website which features the International Exchange Program. In this article, the history of the IEC will be revisited and the International Exchange Program will be introduced. The IEC is proud of this program and welcomes ISPRM members to visit this site. The ISPRM International Exchange Committee (IEC) serves primarily as a central clearinghouse for international educational and humanitarian opportunities in Physical & Rehabilitation Medicine by placing medical students, residents, faculty physicians and allied rehabilitation professionals in global voluntary didactic and public service rotations. To coordinate its initiatives, the International Exchange Committee interfaces with other rehabilitation organizations, as well as relevant ISPRM committees, and shares information about global PRM educational opportunities with ISPRM members.

The History of PRM in Singapore

by Dr. Lim

Singapore is a city-state in South-East Asia with a population of 5.4 million. Although an island only 716 sq km in size, Singapore is a major international city engaging in activities such as exports of consumer electronics, information technology products, financial services, and biotechnology. From a third world country some 50 years ago, Singapore in 2013 had a per capita GDP (gross domestic product) of US$ 54,833. Healthcare statistics are excellent with an Infant Mortality Rate of 2.0 deaths/1,000 live births, a Life Expectancy of 82.3 years and 20 doctors/10,000 population, all achieved on a healthcare expenditure of only 4.6% (2011) of gross domestic product. Nonetheless, Singapore has committed to increasing expenditures significantly to cope with one of the fasting aging populations in the world, with those aged 65 years and over expected to grow from 10.5% currently to almost 20% in the year 2030.

Message from Madagascar rehabilitation Medicine

Dear ISPRM Members,

It is indeed a great honour and privilege for us to become members of the ISPRM.
With some rehabilitation centres and very few rehabilitation doctors, it was very difficult to help improve the quality of life for people with impairments and disabilities in Madagascar. So, the completion of a first mid-level Diploma in Rehabilitation Medicine is likely to be the beginning of  progress in the field of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in our country. This was achieved with the very good teaching and support from teams from Leeds in the UK, headed by a Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine, Professor Anne Chamberlain.

As we are located in a distant island in the Indian Ocean, and some of our members are in remote regions, the opportunity you are giving us to be part of ISPRM is a great chance so that we will be able to consolidate learning and improve knowledge and skills in the rehabilitation field.

Aware of the challenge we have to face in sustaining our achievements and promoting the field of physical and rehabilitation medicine, we decided to gather together in our own very recently formed association.

Being part of ISPRM will certainly help AMPR Mada in its mission. So, we would like to assure you of our full participation and to give our warmest thanks to all ISPRM members.
Best regards,

                         AMPR Mada
